There has been some amazing improvement in EPS buildings’ energy use! Here is some insight into where we are, how we have improved, and where we want to go.
TMAC

TMAC gas usage has shown a steady decrease, as shown in the figure above. Additionally, the building currently has an Energy Star score of 91 (compared to TALI’s disappointing 20). This trend is no accident! The facilities team changed the set points of thermostats in the building to 2 degrees less and shut down unused classrooms to decrease TMAC’s gas footprint. A little truly goes a long way!
Middle School

The MS is proudly net zero when it comes to gas, the first and only EPS building to do so. This is due to the fact that it is a brand-new building that has been designed to use more electricity than gas, including the absence of gas in laboratories.
TALI
Though it is newer than TMAC, TALI still has a long way to go when it comes to reducing its energy use. This is due to a host of factors, including the size of the building and variety of facilities located in TALI, including labs and a theater.
On a more positive note, TALI has steadily decreased its electricity usage, as shown below. Props to the amazing facilities team, as always! In the future, the Environmental Club will work to facilitate further improvement in TALI’s energy usage.
